Ferrari

The founder of Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari, originally had no intention of manufacturing cars for use on the road.  His passion was racing vehicles and he started his company as such.  In 1929, the company was a sponsor for amateur drivers.  Until 1938, Ferrari prepared and raced several drivers in Alfa Romeo cars.  Ferrari was hired by Alfa Romeo in 1938.  Three years later, Alfa Romero was confiscated by Mussolini in the war.

Ferrari’s division was small enough to be unaffected, however.  Because Ferrari was prohibited from racing for four years, he worked on production of machine tools and aircraft accessories.  He even produced a race car called the Tipo 815.  This was the first actual Ferrari car.

The first Ferrari car for the road was introduced in 1947 as the 125 S.  It had a V12 engine.  While the company grew in popularity, Enzo Ferrari maintained a distaste for his customers.  He was able to see the launch of the Ferrari F40 in 1988 which is known as one of the most famous ferrari supercars ever made.  Enzo died later that year. Ferrari’s name has lived on as the company has.

The company is still known for excellence in construction and vehicles that are cutting edge.  On May 17, 2009 in Maranello, Italy, a 1957 250 Testa Rossa (TR) was auctioned, by RM Auctions and Sotheby's, for $12.1 Million - a world record for the most expensive car ever sold at an auction. The value of the Ferrari continues to grow as it is one of the most coveted brands available today.
